HC directs govt to release grants to Vikas Parishad Mandrem

PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has directed the State government to release grants to Vikas Parishad Mandrem, the society running Mandre College of Commerce, Economics and Management.

The verdict, delivered by Division Bench of Justice M S Sonak and Bharati Dangre, came in response to a writ petition filed by the Society and the Chairman of the Managing Committee of the institution Adv Ramakant Khalap alleging belligerent and discriminatory treatment.

The petitioners claimed the denial for grant-in-aid is on flimsy and partisan grounds and urged the court to quash and set aside the action of the State government.

Admitting the plea, the Bench stated that balancing the equities, the State government is directed to release the grant in favour of the Vikas Parishad Mandrem for running the B Com curriculum in the college from the academic year 2017-18 and the arrears of the grant are directed to be cleared in six equal installments.

“However, as far as the grant for current academic year 2020-21 is concerned, proportional to the number of students admitted and the services of the staff engaged, the grant would be released within a period of two months from today,” the order further mentions.
