PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Thursday directed the Registrar of Cooperative Societies to decide on the disqualification of Directors and Managing Director (MD) of Goa Dairy before the Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled on September 2.
Four farmers – Dattaprasad Savordekar, Jayanth Desai, Shivanand Pednekar and Vaibav Parab – supplying milk to Goa Dairy had filed a writ petition in the HC praying for a stay on the AGM of Goa Dairy scheduled on September 2.
According to them, the AGM is illegal since it has been scheduled in defiance of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies’ order to convene a special general body meeting to discuss the inquiry report on the losses suffered by Goa Dairy. The Registrar also directed that the special meeting take action against those responsible for the losses suffered by Goa Dairy.
The petitioners further said that one tenth of the members of Goa Dairy had also submitted a memorandum to the Registrar to issue orders directing Goa Dairy to convene a Special General Body meeting to discuss the inquiry report. However, the petitioners said, in violation of the Registrar’s direction, Goa Dairy board has convened an annual general meeting.
The petitioners pointed out that once one tenth of the members of Goa Dairy call for a special general body meeting, then, as per law it is mandatory to call such a special meeting.
The petitioners had prayed for a stay on the annual general meeting, and instead direct Goa Dairy to convene a special meeting to discuss the inquiry report and take action against those who caused loss to Goa Dairy.
