PANJIM, MARCH 18
The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding purchase of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) by the Electricity Department has been dismissed by the Bombay High Court at Goa.
The High Court had taken cognisance of an article written by John Eric Gomes that highlighted a couple of issues such as frequent
power failure, black-outs in the industrial areas and purchase of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL).
Later, an engineer Kashinath Shetye had tried to join as an intervener in the petition.
Notices were issued to the government after which affidavits were filed by the state government in which the Advocate General Subodh Kantak had submitted details about the purchase of CFLs to the court.
Replying to questions at a briefing in the Secretariat, Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira said the process of replacing sodium vapour lamps with CFL would continue.
He also stated that there is good feedback to the CFL bulbs as they are energy-savers. CFL bulbs are of 80-85 watts while sodium vapour lamps are of 250 watts.
He further said some BJP MLAs have also requested for more CFL bulbs in their constituencies.
GCZMA: Sequeira who is also the Minister for Environment strongly defended member secretary of Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority Michael D’Souza in response to an article quoting Prakash sardesai in a section of the media.
It is very demoralizing for an upright officer to get baseless criticism in the media, he said.
