PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Friday dismissed the application filed by Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Crime Branch for cancellation of the bail granted by North Goa District and Sessions Court to illegal mining case accused Imran Khan.
The North Goa District and Sessions Court on September 15 had granted bail to Khan who was arrested in connection with the illegal mining scam being probed by SIT.
Khan was arrested for his alleged role in illegal extraction of iron ore. SIT suspects a nexus between Khan and an influential politician from South Goa.
According to details, Khan allegedly availed an Environmental Clearance in his name whereas Goa State Pollution Control Board found it to be fabricated and bogus. It had then suspended mining operations in TC 65/51 belonging to Amalia Figereido.
SIT submitted in the court that witnesses have been traced who were privy to the commission of offence of theft and are willing to disclose the facts before the investigating agency. SIT has pointed out that Khan may hamper the investigation and influence the witnesses.
