PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has issued notices to 14 government officers and employees, who have been granted extension in service by the State government.
RTI activist Sudip Tamankar has filed public interest litigation (PIL) writ petition challenging the orders of extension in service granted to 14 retired officers and servants from time to time, which are against circular issued by the government.
Tamankar has prayed that the State government and the Department of Personnel be restrained from granting extension in service to any other government employee beyond his/her age of superannuation in breach of the order of the State government dated January 6, 1992, Office Memorandum dated December 30, 2014 and March 10, 2016 respectively and Articles 14, 16 and 21 of the Constitution of India, pending the hearing and final disposal of the present petition.
Tamankar has further prayed that that both the respondents be immediately directed to revoke the orders of granting extension in service of the 14 officers and servants beyond their age of superannuation and the order confirming the same.
FDA Director Jyoti Sardesai, PWD Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar, PWD Chief Engineer Santosh Mhapne, WRD Chief Engineer Pramod Badami, BDO Anil Naik, PWD superintending engineer Sudhir A Parab, Krishnanand P Naik, Electricity Department Executive Engineer Arun Patil, WRD Executive Engineer Nazareth Vaz, Dayanand Nadkarni, Abhay Prabhu, Merwyn Caldeira and Shekhar V Shetye are the government employees whose extension in service has been challenged by Tamankar.
The High Court has now posted the matter for hearing on April 12.
