HC issues notices to govt over Awal Karkun recruitments

PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Tuesday issued notices to the State government and appointees to the post of Awal Karkun at North Goa Collectorate in response to a petition challenging the recruitment process.

The Bench has directed that all the16 appointments to the posting will be subject to the outcome of the writ petition filed by Naveena Naik while directing the respondents to reply to the notices.

The court is expected to complete the proceedings within four months.

The petitioner has sought to quash and set aside the recruitment and has pleaded to the court to call for records from the government and the Collectorate with regards to the recruitment process.

Naik has also sought for examining the entire recruitment process thereafter.

The appointments already courted controversy after activist Adv Aires Rodrigues had complained against Raymond Fernandes, son of Deputy Speaker Isidore Fernandes alleging he forged and fabricated degree certificate while applying for the post last year.

Raymond was thereafter issued notice and with the matter also in the High Court, he was refused interim relief in connection with a petition challenging his removal from the list of selected candidates for the post.

The Court in its order observed that the BA degree submitted by Raymond was from a University not recognised by the University Grants Commission.

The entire recruitment process has come under the scanner after a candidate is learnt to have bribed an “agent” of Rs 40 lakh to secure the job. The Anti Corruption Branch is probing the case.
