MAPUSA: A 62 years old male from Mapusa succumbed to COVID infection on Tuesday.
According to the sources, the deceased person was declared brought dead to the North District Hospital. As per protocol, swab sample was collected and found positive for COVID infection.
Meanwhile, Mapusa’s active COVID cases tally reached 125 with 20 new reported under urban health centre. Six were in town, three each at Cunchelim, Gaunswaddo and Peddem, two each at Karaswada and Angod and one at Khorlim. Two more jail staff attached to Colvale Central Jail and two inmates tested positive for COVID, on Tuesday.
Dr Pradeep Korgaonkar, health officer, Colvale Primary Health Centre, said, “198 swab samples of jail staff and inmates was tested on Tuesday, out of which two jail staff and two inmates have tested positive for infection. So far 613 swab samples are tested.” Earlier on Monday, five jail guards and 28 under trial inmates had tested positive.
Tivim MLA Nilkhant Halarnkar was tested positive for COVID infection on Tuesday. Halarnkar opted for home isolation.
Sources informed that on Monday night Halarnkar was feeling feverish and on the next day he visited the Colvale Health Centre to undergo the COVID test and was found positive. Halarnkar opted for home isolation while his wife’s report has come negative.
Curchorem correspondent adds: Two residents of Curchorem and Cacora respectively under the jurisdiction of Curchorem Upgraded Primary Health Centre succumbed to COVID and two more persons detected positive, on Tuesday.
According to the health officials, a 67 years old woman from Bebquegal Ward of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council and a man of 54 years old from Cacora succumbed to COVID, making it first two deaths under the jurisdiction of Curchorem Health Centre.
“One male person from Cacora and one female from Sanvordem tested positive on Tuesday taking the tally of cases to 102,” informed the official.
