BICHOLIM: The meeting of Mulakh Khazan Farmer’s Association from Mayem was held wherein farmers voiced out their grievances by appealing government to provide them with all the basic facilities as announced earlier so that the fields could be brought under cultivation. The farmers suggested to utilise district mining fund for the affected farmers.
The farmers felt that government first need to understand the problems faced by them. Association secretary, Sakharam Pednekar said that because of mining their farms are totally destroyed due to rampant mining due to sludge most of the farms have become useless.

“Today because of mining in Mayem most of the water reservoirs have dried out, because of sludge farms have turned useless. This is the only reason why we demand with the government to utilize the money got from the mining companies for the benefit of the farmers.” Pednekar told.
The vice president of the association, Prakash Chodankar informed about the plan that they have devised for giving basic facilities for the farmers, which will the farmers to do farming with ease. Presently there are around 110-odd farmers in the association. While the meeting was held in Mayem under the chairmanship of Yeshwant Karbhatkar.
