VALPOI: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has granted permission to the carry out repairs on Jawahar Navodaya School at Valpoi.
The Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) of Jawahar Navodaya School had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking direction to the authorities concerned to undertake urgent repair of the dilapidated school buildings.
In its petition, the PTA said that cracks have developed in the columns and beams of the building; it tanks, doors and windows are broken, requiring immediate repairs.
The Navodaya is a residential school in Valpoi where nearly 300 students are studying.
According to PTA Chairman Subodh Desai, the school building was not maintained for the last ten years due to land under dispute and that funds also could not be sanctioned for maintenance as the school land had no proper title documents.
