PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has asked the State government to reply within two weeks as to when the Lokayukta, the State Information Commissioners (SIC) and Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) will be appointed.
The High Court order came after hearing a petition filed by Goa RTI Forum, which asked for directions from the HC to the State for appointment of Lokayukta, SIC and CIC in a time-bound manner.
Goa RTI forum counsel Ryan Menezes pointed out during arguments that the State failed to appoint the authorities despite several appeals and reminders. Menezes asked the High Court to direct the State to make appointments to the three posts immediately and asked for a fixed time frame.
AG Atmaram Nadkarni said that the SIC and CIC would be appointed shortly as the process is already on.
Regarding the Lokayukta he said the State has written to the Chief Justice of India seeking recommendation of a name, as the Lokayukta should be a retired SC judge or a retired Chief Justice of a High Court.
