PANJIM: A Division Bench of the Bombay High Court at Goa comprising Justice M S Sonak and Justice B P Deshpande on Monday after hearing final arguments reserved their judgment on the criminal writ petition filed by Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar seeking quashing of the FIR against him in connection with the land grabbing case.
Additional Public Prosecutor Pravin Faldesai has filed a status report of investigation against Arolkar before the High Court in a sealed envelope.
Adv Aires Rodrigues on July 4, last year, had filed a complaint on behalf of Rawloo Khalap with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at Crime Branch giving details of the alleged land grabbing by Mandrem MLA.
Arguing on behalf of the petitioner, Adv Abhijit Gosavi said that it was a property ownership dispute and not a criminal case.
He said that the complainant Rawloo Khalap is claiming ownership on account of similarity in the name but he was not the land owner.
Meanwhile, Justice V K Jadhav Commission of Inquiry appointed by the Goa government to probe the land grabbing in Goa will on March 1, hear the complaint against the Mandrem MLA of having grabbed that land admeasuring 1.48 lakh square metres situated at Dhargalim in Pernem taluka of which Rawloo Khalap currently residing in California is a co-owner.
