PANJIM: In view of rising COVID-19 and Omicron variant cases, the High Court of Bombay at Goa on Thursday directed the State government to place on record action it has taken to prevent the spread of the virus in Goa.
The direction was based on a Public Interest Litigation related with COVID-19 pandemic, which was filed by South Goa Advocates Association last year. The matter is scheduled for next hearing on January 12.
The lawyers’ body had approached the high court when second wave of the pandemic had gripped the State reporting worrying rising graph of single-day cases and deaths, shortage of beds, shortage of oxygen, etc. The petition, which was clubbed with other petitions seeking a common platform for information on bed availability, ICUs and oxygen, had also sought for lockdown and to make mandatory for passengers travelling to Goa to possess RT-PCR negative certificate.
With the current rise in cases, the high court is expected to hold regular hearing of the PIL. During the next hearing, the State is likely to file its reply on the action taken on the pandemic.
