PANJIM: The Children’s Court will hear on Thursday the anticipatory bail plea of the headmistress of a high school, who has been charged with assaulting a Class VIII student.
The victim boy’s father had lodged a complaint with Panjim Police on December 15 alleging that the headmistress beat his child with a steel ruler. A FIR under Section 323 (causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act was registered after which the headmistress moved the court seeking anticipatory bail.
Panjim police are expected to file their say on Thursday opposing her anticipatory bail citing the seriousness of the matter and similar complaints lodged against her in the past.
In 2014, the headmistress, who also runs a primary school, was booked for mentally and physically harassing students. One student had even complained that he was asked to wash the toilet of the school.
A few teachers had also accused her of abusing them for questioning her about the alleged harassment meted out to the students. Education Department had then initiated an inquiry against her but no action has been taken, while the criminal case is pending hearing in the court.
