Sarpanch Valentino Barretto added the traditional fair which did not take place for two years in the past due to the pandemic, is being held this year with certain changes, which includes a drive to impose the ban on plastic.

MARGAO: The Chinchinim Panchayat has announced that the Chinchinim Church Feast will be celebrated with a traditional fair after a gap of two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The newly-elected panchayat body led by Sarpanch Valentino Barretto also announced that a mega health camp for the villagers will be organised as part of the feast and two hospitals and prominent doctors have extended their support for the camp.

He further added the traditional fair which did not take place for two years in the past due to the pandemic, is being held this year with certain changes, which includes a drive to impose the ban on plastic.

However, Barretto emphasised that the fair can be a platform to help those who may have recently lost their jobs and are unemployed.

He said in consultation with various authorities such as Traffic Police and the Church and their Fabrica and volunteers etc, they had decided not to allow stalls to be erected in certain places, which led to traffic congestion.
