Cuncolim: Taking a dig at his opponents, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for Cuncolim constituency, Prashant Naik said the constituents of this historical constituency are all set to send back “corrupt and inactive candidates” home.

“I am hundred percent sure that people of Cuncolim will give me a chance to represent them in Assembly,” Naik said while speaking to Herald.

“For last thirty years Cuncolkars are suffering because of Deadly pollution at Cuncolim Industrial estate. First it was Congress who brought hazardous chemical factories. BJP is instrumental in getting polluting fish meals. I am assuring my voters that my first priority will be to stop all polluting units and get some pharma companies and other non polluting companies who can provide job opportunities to locals. We need to make every youth self sustainable. They must not depend only on Government jobs. I will set up skilling facilities in my constituency, which will help the youth to not only get employment for self but also provide jobs to others,” he said.

The AAP candidate wants to set up career guidance centres so that youth can get to choose their future and also to set-up own businesses.

Sharing his agenda for the constituency, Naik said his vision is to setup 24×7 health centre in every panchayat area with 20-bedded hospital facility.

“It’s my vision to establish Mohalla Clinic and provide better medical facilities with free medicine and consultation,” he said.

Speaking on education and agriculture situation, the AAP candidate said once upon a time Cuncolim was known for its fertile land with traditional bandharas (check dams) for irrigation.

“Unfortunately due to lack of zeal from the leaders, Cuncolim’s once fertile lands have turned barren. I have plans for promoting agricultural activities,” Naik said.

He lamented that while State government is setting up NIT in Cuncolim, but the state of educational institutions is not par with NIT to make Cuncolim education hub. He emphasised on the need to provide better educational facilities.

Regarding his vision for the constituency, Naik pointed out that at Balli there is no Hindu crematorium. “On getting elected, I will provide Hindu crematorium to Balli panchayat on war footing. Cuncolim can be developed as tourist destination as we have Nayabandh lake which can be develop as tourist sport. Heritage Village Chandor can be a mini film city. We have to think out of the box. Only then things will happen,” he said.

A builder and developer, Prashant Naik comes from very humble background. “I have experienced hunger and poverty. I know how tough it is for the poor to survive. It’s my responsibility to provide better living facilities,” he said.

When asked about his message to voters, Naik said that he is asking vote for progress. “I am asking vote for youth and women empowerment. I am asking for just one chance to give clean and transparent government,” he said.
