Health insurance benefits may be extended to government servants

PANJIM:
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Monday said that the government is
considering extending the benefits of the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana
(DDSSY) to government employees.

Speaking
at the launch of the distribution of health insurance cards under DDSSY,
Parsekar said the government
has taken cognizance of the demand raised by government servants to extend the
benefits of the scheme to them and once this demand is met all government
employees will benefit. The government had earlier announced that government
employees were kept out of this scheme as they had other medical benefits.

Distributing
the health insurance cards, Parsekar said, “Goa is the first State in India to
implement such an insurance scheme which covers the entire population.”

He
said the scheme envisages grant of financial assistance as insurance of a maximum
of Rs 4 lakh to families and if the amount exceeds that can be reimbursed as
per their entitlement.

Saying the government
is concerned about the health and living standards of the people., he said the
Health Department is providing free service in Goa. He stressed on making Goa
as a medical hub, so as to attract more tourists for medical services.

Deputy Chief
Minister Francis D’Souza said the government is spending Rs 140 crore on this
scheme.

Goa
Electronics Corporation Limited Chairman Dattaprasad Naik urged the government
to start a mobile facility for people not able to visit the kendras for enrollment
as some are bedridden or physically disabled.
