Health Min appeals to Goans to come forward to take jabs

PANJIM: As the next phase of vaccination drive opened up on Thursday, for people above the age of 45, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has appealed to Goans to participate in the vaccination drive. 

“With the surge in cases, it is my appeal to those who are eligible for taking the vaccine to come forward and get vaccinated. The Government of Goa and Health Ministry has brought the vaccine to your doorstep, we request you to avail this opportunity to prevent a second surge of COVID-19,” he said. 

“A vaccine will act as a protective layer against the virus. Those eligible for the vaccine should not shy away,” he added. Dean of Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) Dr Shivanand Bandekar who is also the Chief Medical Officer for COVID-19 announced that the Health Department has set up centres in industrial areas to cover industrial workers. 

He added that 74,000 vaccine quota (doses) is available.  It may be recalled that the Centre had informed the States that they will continuously replenish States’ supply of vaccines. 

Dr Bandekar further stated that by end of March, 97,000 people had been administered the first dose and 17,000 people had been administered the second dose.
