PANJIM: With regards to the rise in the number of dengue cases reported in the State, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane will on Tuesday chair a meeting to ensure proper departmental coordination to bring the viral infection under control.
Minister has urged MLAs, sarpanchas, zilla panchayat members and councillors to create awareness in their respective areas about do’s and don’ts to prevent dengue virus from spreading further.
The State till date has recorded 1,468 suspected dengue cases in nine months, as against 1613 cases in 2018.  Also there have been four deaths due to dengue; even though three patients were suffering from multiple ailments.
In a video message, Rane said he would chair a meeting on Tuesday, to bring in required coordination and create awareness to curb the dengue menace.
He said the meeting would be attended by all health officers, officials of panchayat department and municipal administration to jointly fight dengue.
Rane said the Health Department’s responsibility is to treat the patients but the onus to clear stagnant water and defogging is with the panchayats and municipalities.
“I would request all the elected representatives right from MLAs to local bodies to create all the required awareness. The Health Department will provide all the required support,” Rane said adding ‘government or health department alone cannot fight as there has to be everyone’s contribution’.
Minister said he and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant are continuously monitoring the situation and all remedial measures are put in place.
