Health min makes a surprise visit to Dabolim airport at 2 am

Takes stock of all screening facilities and procedures adopted at the airport

Vasco: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane along with Dean of Goa Medical College and other Health officials inspected the screening facilities at Goa International Airport in Dabolim in the wee hours of Thursday in presence of Airport Director Gagan Malik.

The minister at around 2 am suddenly arrived at the Airport and took stock of the situation at all the screening facilities and other procedures adopted at the airport for screening of international passengers arriving at the airport in the wake of COVID19 threat.

Speaking to the media, Rane said he had arrived at the airport to inspect the functioning and coordination of all the screening facilities at the airport as there were claiming by citizens that screening at the airport was not done properly. 

He further said that he checked the screening facility and found that all the preventive measures were adopted and screening was being done aptly. Rane also said that even the domestic passengers were being screened because many come via different routes. 

“We will have a meeting again on Friday to set a Standard Operating Procedures so that anyone entering Goa can be checked properly. If we have any doubts then we will quarantine the passenger,” Rane said.

When asked about the preparedness by his government  to tackle COVID19, Rane said Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has decided to provide ten thermal scanners which will be soon installed at different railway stations. Besides the two quarantine centres identified previously, a private hospital in Chicalim has been provided with beds that could be used when required.

After thorughly inspecting the screening procedures, Rane left the airport at around 3.30 am. He also expressed satisfaction with the working of the airport authority for following the guidelines laid down by the Health department.
