VASCO: The health centre situated in the Mormugao municipality building has been shut for almost a week after few COVID cases among health staff were reported.
Raising concerns over its closure, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Nandadeep Raut has urged Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to depute new staff in case the earlier workers are quarantined and reopen the centre.
“This centre is in the heart of the town and more people will benefit from the health services,” Raut said.
The chairperson said, “Rains have commenced and many people will remain deprived of medical assistance and services, who usually visit the centre for immunisation, etc.”
Raut said, “Health services are essential and important part of the society.”
He said “Nobody knows when the centre will be made operational. During monsoon there are chances of dengue and malaria raising their ugly heads and at this point of time, the health centre should be operational. Last year some people lost their lives to Dengue.”
It may be recalled that a week ago some health workers reportedly tested positive for COVID which led to the closure of the health centre in the municipality building as the health workers were quarantined.
