PONDA: Claiming that services in various primary health centres (PHCs), community health centres (CHCs), district and sub-district hospitals have improved, the Association of Government Doctors of Goa (AGDG) has assured that consultant doctors will be available in all the centres from 9 am to 4.30 pm.
The decision was taken after AGDG executive members recently met Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
According to information, Parsekar advocated the need for availability of consulting doctors from 9 am to 4.30 pm for the benefit of public.
“Consultants are available 24 hours and attend to patients in emergency situation. However as the health minister pointed out, there is a need to have at least one consultant to be physically present in various government-run centres from 9 am to 4.30 pm. We have assured the minister that there will be consultant present from 9 am to 4.30 pm,” said AGDG President Dr M Mohandas.
There are 28 PHCs, five CHCs, Cottage Hospital, two district and one sub-district hospital and Goa Medical College.
“The health minister is happy with the services in all these centres and our efforts will be to provide better services to the people,” said Dr Mohandas, who is also the Medical Superintendent of Ponda Sub-District Hospital.
The AGDG also submitted a memorandum to the health minister requesting to remove discrepancies in pay structure among senior and junior doctors, where senior doctors are reported to be paid Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 less than the junior doctors.
