Heard that? Now, NCP wants pre-poll tie-up with MGP

The national party ready to tie up with a regional party despite its ideological differences; demands the Assembly be dissolved and President’s Rule be imposed

PANJIM: With the MGP-BJP ties all but broken, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has offered the MGP a pre-poll alliance for the 2017 State elections. The party has also decided to ask the Goa Governor to dissolve the Assembly.
Addressing media persons on Tuesday, NCP President Jose Philip D’Souza said that irrespective of ideological differences, the party is ready for a pre-poll alliance with MGP. “It is time for forces like MGP, NCP and Congress to come together and join hands to save the secular vote from being split. We propose that MGP have a pre-poll alliance with us,” he said.
“There is vast difference in our ideology and that of MGP’s. However, the alliance is to save the secular votes from being divided. The division of secular votes will give an edge to BJP in the coming polls,” D’Souza, a former State revenue minister, said.
NCP has also decided to submit a memorandum to Goa Governor Mridula Sinha asking her to dissolve the Assembly and impose President’s Rule or ask Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to prove his majority on the floor of the House.
“Without MGP, BJP is left with 21 MLAs of its own. But within BJP too there is a discord when it comes to Laxmikant Parsekar. Let BJP face the floor test and prove its majority again without MGP,” he said. D’Souza also accused BJP of using regional parties like ‘tissue paper’ for political gains.
“The outbursts of MGP leaders are not very surprising. BJP has lost the trust of its own supporters and strongholds like RSS,” he said. D’Souza alleged that after Manohar Parrikar’s elevation as Union Defence Minister, there has been absolute anarchy.
