PANJIM: The appeal filed by the Congress in the Supreme Court challenging the order of the High Court of Bombay at Goa dismissing disqualification petitions against 10 defected MLAs will be heard on April 13.
In February, the High Court had upheld the order of the Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly dismissing disqualification petitions filed against the 10 MLAs, who had switched over to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2019.
The appeal has been filed by the GPCC president Girish Chodankar, who said that the Speaker allowed protection to the erstwhile party members by invoking the protection guaranteed to a legislature party member. He has contested that the rebel MLAs had attracted disqualification under Tenth schedule of the Constitution.
Former Minister and senior lawyer P Chidambaram will argue the matter on behalf of the petitioner.
