PANJIM: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) will hold environmental public hearing for the proposed expansion of the Dabolim International Airport on December 4, 2020.
The expansion is in respect of extension of existing integrated terminal building (additional 35,500 sq mts) and existing Apron to the eastern side (9,170 sq mts) at the airport. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) is expected to spend around Rs 400 crore for the project.
The public hearing will be held at Community Centre, Airport Colony, near NSD, Sancoale from 10 am onwards. In view of COVID pandemic only 100 persons will be allowed to attend the public hearing physically. Rest will be provided an option to participate through virtual digital hearing.
Those desirous of participating in the public hearing have been asked to write to GSPCB via email goapcb@gspcb.in.
“The present proposal is for extension of existing integrated terminal building towards east by demolition of old terminal building, internal modification of existing integrated terminal building and extension of existing Apron towards East to facilitate 3 no. code C Aircraft (AB-321/B739-900) parking,” states the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report.
“The existing integrated terminal building which handles both domestic and international passengers is near saturated, therefore it is proposed to expand the existing integrated terminal building by demolishing the old terminal building to cater to the passengers’ convenience in future growth of Goa Airport,” it said.
The airport is expected to handle 11.22 million passengers by 2020-21 and this may increase in the future, EIA said.
