CALANGUTE: Foreign tourists have expressed dissapointment at not being able to enjoy “quality meals” and at the loss of business to locals and the Goan economy due to the delay in setting up shacks along the coastline.
An Englishman Glen said, “I have been visiting Goa, especially Calangute for the last 20 years, but of late have not been able to patronise the shacks or have a good meal due to the delayed start. I am told that the shacks are delayed due to technical reasons, but it shouldn’t be. The ultimate sufferers are Goans, who are deprived of the opportunity to serve their meals to high-spending tourists.  Unfortunately, we are not able to enjoy the quality meals at the shacks, which we long for.”
“Every time we come to Goa, we hardly get to enjoy the good food served in shacks as the shacks come up very late. We love Goan hospitality, but unfortunately we are not able to enjoy it to the fullest,” said Colin, another tourist.
The shacks along the Calangute coastal belt have been set up recently, although their licenses were issued on September 1. A few shack owners are still in the process of obtaining other permissions.   They had hoped to set up their shacks by October as the allotments were already in place due to the three-year policy.
