Heavy downpour exposes shoddy road repair work in Salcete taluka

MARGAO: The recent downpour has many roads in Salcete left with huge potholes thus exposing the shoddy repair work done by the authorities. Huge potholes filled with water, pose a risk to motorists as they have to drive on little that is left of the roads.

Local residents have criticized the State government for failing to look into their demands of repairing those stretches of roads, including those that have been in poor condition for the last few months. The stretch of road near the Colvah,  the Margao  bus stand and Vidyanagar are the worst affected.

These roads were dug earlier for other development works.

While the locals demand that PWD carry out an inspection and fix accountability on the contractor concerned, they added that whatever patchwork had been done earlier to fix the potholes as a temporary measure, has been washed away in the rains.

They added that it is particularly scary for two-wheeler riders who could lose balance on these potholes especially when there is a lot of water on the roads.

Locals demanded that the government repair the roads on basis of urgency and wondered who to hold liable and responsible if in case accidents happen here.

They further lamented that the same story is repeated during the monsoon season.

PWD officials stated that their department has come out with a mobile application (app) and that they have successfully responded to complaints and roads have been repaired.
