CALANGUTE: The work to remove the remaining debris of the ‘River Princess’ is underway at Candolim beach.
Heavy machinery, including cranes, barges and vessels have been involved in removing the debris from the seabed with the help of state-of-art technology engaged by the contractor, M/s Arihant.
The contractor has so far removed about 500 tonnes of debris from the seabed and the operation is being monitored by National Institute of Oceanography and Goa Shipyard Limited.
When contacted, River Princess Hatao Manch (RPHM) Convenor Fermino Fernandes said M/s Arihant had managed to remove about 500 tonnes of shipwreck debris from the seabed with the help of latest technology.
“The work is being monitored by NIO and GSL. The contractors have assured to complete the work by May 15 before the onset of monsoon despite the delay on part of the Tourism Department,” stated Fernandes.
