MARGAO: Margao and surrounding areas on Sunday experienced heavy rain showers causing losses to the vendors of Margao feast fair at old market.
On Sunday morning, the commercial town and several other villages of Salcete woke up to a partially dull morning where cloud cover shielded the sun for some parts of the day.
In the evening, heavy rains lashed many parts of the taluka. However, it affected largely at the feast fair. Being a Sunday, people had rushed at the fair in large numbers, but they had to return back due to the rains. Mess was witnessed at the fair too.
Speaking to reporters, many vendors claimed huge losses due to the sudden rains, as their goods got damaged and they were forced to cover their stalls.
“Many of the vendors from the feast fair had not covered the stalls, as we were not expecting the rains these days. Many goods displayed in the stalls have gone damaged due to the rains,” said a vendor.
Sudden rainfall also made the traditional carpenters on the run to save their furniture.
