Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of intense rainfall activity across Goa during the next four days and advised people to abstain from outdoor activities where possible.
IMD has said that the State will experience widespread moderate rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy rain very likely to continue. “The weather systems are expected to increase the rainfall over Goa,” a statement from the IMD said.
IMD Goa said that a cyclonic circulation over east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining south Maharashtra between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilting southwest wards will lead to increased rainfall activity in the State.
The department has again issued an orange alert and an advisory stating, “In view of intense rainfall forecast, people are advised to abstain from outdoor activities as much as possible during the period of very heavy rainfall and also watch for weather updates from Meteorological Centre, Goa.”
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. “Strong winds with speed reaching 40-50 kmph are likely to prevail over southwest and adjoining west central Arabian Sea. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas during June 26 to 30,” the statement said.
IMD recorded 11.10 cms of rainfall during between 5.30am and 5.30pm on Wednesday, June 26 at its Panjim observatory. However, more than 6 cms of rainfall was recorded during the early hours of the day between 5.30am and 8.30am. The Panjim observatory recorded 4.84 cms between 8.30am and 5.30pm.
