MAPUSA/VALPOI: Bardez taluka experienced severe weather conditions on Wednesday as heavy rains swept through the area, resulting in the uprooting of numerous trees and causing significant disruption to daily life. The aftermath of the rainfall saw traffic disruptions, damaged electricity lines, and incurred losses to both public and private property.
The Mapusa Fire Station was inundated with of distress calls, receiving over 20 reports of uprooted trees from various parts of the taluka, including Pirna, Guirim, Siolim, Nachinola, Calvim, Anjuna, and other areas. The fire station personnel worked tirelessly to deal with the situation, staying engaged in emergency operations well into late Wednesday evening.
Various types of trees, such as Bindi, Mango, jungle tree, jackfruit tree, and others, succumbed to the force of the rains, falling onto roads, pathways, and nearby structures. Among the areas affected were the vicinity of the health center at Pirna, Guirim near Chapel, Mhambre shop at Pomburfa, the road leading to Calvim bridge, Rajesh Bar area in Colvale, Greenland bar in Madel Thivim, Noronha Nest at Acoi Karaswada, Chapel at Portowada Siolim, the pathway near Ghateshwar temple at Khorlim, Golna wada in Pomburfa, the road and electrical wires near Artjuna café at Anjuna, and Cotton tree in Camurlim panchayat.
Meanwhile, portion of a house belonging to local Arjun Chandu Gaonkar from Salelim, Honda collapsed due to intense rains. The incident took place on Wednesday morning.
As per the sources, the respective family tried to build a new house but to no success. They have been living in the mud house for the last several years.
