Heavy rains leave trail of sporadic damages

PANJIM: The heavy downpour with thunders and lightening, on Wednesday evening till wee hours, had heavy impact sporadically across State; several parts of the State were inundated. The road connectivity was also partially affected due to water logging and few places saw felling of trees/branches.

The Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services received around 11 ‘meteorological’ related emergency calls pertaining to tree/branch falling on the roads, house, compound and electrical line. With rains continued till late night, quite a few weak trees leaned on the roads. As per the details, the fire personnel provided assistance to cut around three trees, which were dangerously leaning on the road at Dhavorlim.

In one incident, a jungle tree and electrical pole fell on six vehicles parked near the Malim jetty. The fore personnel were also on their toes as water logging complaints at different parts of North and South Goa were also handled. Fortunately, no lives were lost.

The heavy rains were a result of Cyclonic circulation over Tamil Nadu coast. Many parts of Goa also experienced power outage for a couple of hours.
