Heavy rains till Oct 10: IMD

PANJIM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warning for the State with thundershowers to continue till October 10.

PANJIM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warning for the State with thundershowers to continue till October 10. 
On Saturday night, the State witnessed heavy showers accompanied by gusty winds, lightning and thunder. The capital city was flooded creating a panic among the commuters. Severe traffic jam was reported as vehicles moved at a snail’s pace. 
Panjim received the highest rainfall of seven cms followed by Valpoi with four cms. 
The IMD has issued heavy rainfall warning for October 9 and 10. Thunder spells are expected with gusty winds. 
“Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in both districts of the state on October 8, 9 and 10.  Thunder squall is likely with gusty winds reaching up to 45 km/ hr during these days,” IMD said. 
The post south-west monsoon season, which ended on September 30, State recorded three inches of rainfall. The total seasonal rainfall this year was only 100 inches, with 14 percent deficit. 
The monsoon is yet to withdraw from the coastal belt.
