Heavy rains, winds lash Mormugao; fire personnel on toes attending to ten calls

VASCO: Vasco fire and emergencies services had a tough time after ten different cases of uprooting of trees damaging properties were reported at different locations in Mormugao taluka, after state witnessed heavy storm followed by rains on Saturday morning.

Luckily no casualties were reported, though few property loss cases were reported.
According to Vasco fire officer, the first call was reported at 8.22 am when they received information that a branch of tree fell on the road at Mangoor junction in Vasco. While the fire officials were attending to the First call, they received another call at 8.45 am that a tree got uprooted and fell on a house at Bogmalo. After five minutes the fire station received another call at 8.50 am that a tree had fallen on road at new Vaddem. In another five minutes they received a call that a tree had fallen on the road at Chicalim. Likewise several other cases of tree falling were reported from the areas of New Vaddem, Vasco, Bogmalo, Dabolim etc.
“From 8.22 am to 11.35 am we received 10 calls of uprooted tree case from Vasco to Dabolim, however we managed to attend all such calls by forming different teams and all the cases were cleared by our staffs,” informed a fire official from Vasco fire station.
“Though there were few cases where properties were damaged due to uprooting of trees by the strong winds on Saturday morning, no casualties were reported,” he added.
