BELGAUM: People from Belgaum, who were overjoyed with the North West Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation’s decision to commence a weekly tour to Goa, were left disappointed after Goa RTO department demanded a tax of Rs 6,000 per trip.
After the first trip last week, NWKRTC had to suspend its services to Goa due to the unassuming demand by the Goa RTO.
“We were getting excellent response and were literally over booked as we had offered the one-day tour package at a highly reasonable fare of Rs 500 (Rs 385 for senior citizens), however we are forced to suspend our services due to unassuming tax demanded by the Goa RTO,” Depot Manager K K Lamani lamented.
Meanwhile, people of Belgaum who were overjoyed as a large number of people from Belgaum region who had not visited Goa during their life time got an opportunity to do so. All hopes have been pinned on the delegation led by former Belgaum Chamber president Satish Tendolkar, who was in Goa on Tuesday, to present a memorandum to authorities in Goa.
