CANACONA: With Canacona receiving incessant rains during the past couple of days, driving on the National Highway through Canacona is becoming a nightmarish experience as another heavy vehicle slipped off the road eventually coming to standstill after hitting a road side tree.
The mishap reportedly happened in the wee hours of Friday when a multi-axle truck carrying 30 tonnes of bauxite ore from MPT, Vasco to Belgaum veered off the road when it reached Gullem in Canacona.
The driver escaped with minor injuries while the cabin of vehicle was badly damaged.
The vehicle which was occupying two thirds of the NH66 road close to a blind curve inconvenienced the other motorists till it was pulled back on the road later in the post noon.
Many locals vented their anger on social media accusing the Highway Patrol personnel not even visiting the accident site to control and streamline traffic at the accident spot.
Pradeep Mokhardakar, an RTI activist from Canacona taluka, lamented at the condition of the NH66 in Canacona.
“There are no proper drains on both the sides of the road which has caused erosion of the soil on the shoulders, at some places the shoulders are non existing, whenever the drivers take their vehicles on the shoulders they have met with accidents,” Mokhardakar said.
