VASCO:Following protests by Vasco residents and activists against the movement of coal and cargo laden heavy vehicles from the Mormugao Port, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Friday said that he would not allow heavy vehicles to ply across the Port town and urged the transporters to use the four-lane port connectivity road instead.
“We don’t want pollution in Vasco and we have had many protests in the past to expedite the works of the port connectivity four lane flyover, which is now ready. I don’t understand why the MPA does not want to use this road. CM Pramod Sawant assured me that we will find a solution to this issue by Monday or Tuesday,” said Salkar, adding that the spillage from the trucks, which are not covered properly, has resulted in pollution of the town, and inconvenience to its citizens. “We also urge the people not to use the port connectivity flyover for walking as it is meant for vehicles from the port,” said Salkar.
