Falling trees damage houses, cause power outages across Salcete

MARGAO: Incessant rain has wreaked havoc on normal life across Salcete, leading to eight incidents of massive trees getting uprooted and causing damage to properties over the last 24 hours. Several roads in the area have also been inundated due to water logging.

According to Margao Fire Station Officer Gil Souza, one of the incidents involved a huge tree falling on a house in Ratwaddo, Betalbatim. Fire personnel worked tirelessly for over two hours to remove the tree and save property worth Rs. 1.20 lakh.

Two coconut trees collapsed on a house near a petrol pump in Navelim  while one on a house at near Bal Bhavan School in Aquem, Margao.

A compound wall collapsed in a residential lane in Colmorod, Navelim. Additionally, a teak tree fell on the parking garage of a house near the old village panchayat in Sancoale.

Trees falling on the road at Chinchinim, Curtorim, and Nuvem caused road blockages.

The situation worsened as a large tree fell on electrical wires in Fatrade and another tree fell on the road in Curpawado, Cortalim.

The uprooting of trees in places like Ravanfond, Aquem, Ramnagri, and Colva beach road resulted in traffic congestion and power supply disruptions.
