MARGAO: Too many heinous crimes in Margao and Fatorda have created a sense of unrest and fear among the people of the urban Salcete. Non-Goans involved in crimes and commission of heinous crimes such as murders and attempts have called upon the need for a strategy review by the Goa Police.

The Police have maintained that they make sure they investigate and bring the culprits to book.

The jeweller Swapnil Walke murder case shook the entire State and happened soon after the St Cruz shooting incident. With the broad daylight murder, dual murders in the Chandrawado locality now, the Police force seems to be overwhelmed with policing as well as their regular duties.

When the gruesome murder of Swapnil Walke came to light, there was a surge of businessmen wanting to carry a licenced firearm as they never felt more insecure. Margao-based businessman Parish Borkar said, “The CCTV can capture the perpetrators on tape, but not physically,” he said.

The Swapnil Walke case, at present, is being investigated by the Crime Branch and all the accused have been named in the charge sheet under Sections for various offences they committed. However, in the case of setting fire to the car of the principal of Chinchinim school, there is an assurance from the Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Singh that he will look thoroughly into the matter. At present, the accused who was detained in suspicion has been granted bail.

The dual murder in Chandrawado has in fact raised a question on whether the people are taking the tenant verification seriously or not. The Fatorda Police Station today has 60 staff who is involved in various duties other than that of policing.

Police Inspector Kapil Nayak said, “The staff is working efficiently to keep crime at bay and functioning without any hassles.”

When asked whether the house owner had done the tenant verification in the Chandrawado case Kapil Nayak said, “There is no record of tenant verification.” Deputy Inspector General of Police Parmaditya said, “The police is everywhere but crimes happening inside the homes…we will investigate the case.”

He also assured to investigate from the angle of the tenant verification. A top cop from Goa Police, while speaking to Herald, said that “there were absolutely blind cases that could be successfully cracked as the tenant verification had been completed by the ones renting their rooms.”

Fortunately, it is because the accused in this case did not travel too far they have been arrested. In cases, where tenant verifications are done detecting a criminal and cracking the crime is a much easy task.”
