According to the Flag Officer Commanding Goa Area (FOGA) Rear Admiral Puneet Bahl, the Chetak helicopter was coming from Navy ship INS Vikramaditya to INS Hansa. Suddenly the pilots onboard the chopper noticed low oil pressure warning light.
“This indicates that the helicopter has to land in nearby safe landing zone. When the same was noticed the helicopter was in the vicinity of Hotel Lalit and pilots adopted emergency procedures and landed safely in property owned by Lalit Group of Hotels in Canacona,” Bahl told Herald.
“Any variation in the oil temperature of the helicopter can cause a snag thus in accordance with standard operating procedures, the pilot carried out a safe precautionary landing at a designated helipad of Hotel Lalit”.
He said that a maintenance team of Indian Navy from INS Hansa has been sent to the spot; both the pilots on board Chetak are safe and they had followed correct emergency procedures prescribed in such situation. “Our team has been working on the Helicopter and after a short sortie check, if everything is fine then the helicopter will be brought to INS Hansa base,” Bahl added.
