PANJIM: Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza stressed the need for creating awareness among parents about deaf-blindness in sync with systematic efforts to help create self confidence among children with this disability.
He was speaking after inaugurating the State Advocacy Meeting of Goa on deaf blindness held Tuesday morning. The meeting was organized by Caritas Goa in association with Sense International India and UK Aid. D’Souza said that it is high time one needs to provide help and support for the development of children born with disabilities, and encourage them to lead a normal life.
Stating that government has implemented various schemes for this section of society, D’Souza gave an assurance that he would streamline and simplify the procedures so that they could avail of benefits under these schemes. Earlier, Director of Caritas Goa Fr Maverick Fernandes, said that every child is born with talents. The child with deaf blindness needs to be treated with special care and attention, he said.
Assistant Director Social Welfare Sudesh Gawade, Senior Manager-Advocacy and Network Sense India Parag Namdev, Project Coordinator Caritas Goa State Learning Center on deaf- blindness Reflino Fernandes and others attended the function.
