Help on way for Mapusa Merchants Assn

Enroachment on footpaths will be cleared in the next 8 days

MAPUSA: In a meeting called by the newly appointed chairperson of Mapusa municipal council, Rohan Kavlekar has assured the Mapusa Merchant association their problem regarding encroachment on footpaths will be solved in next 8 days. The President of the MMA Ashish Shirodkar was present to discuss issues such as footpath encroachment in market, street vendors issue, implementation of Town Vending Committee & pre monsoon cleaning up of drains.
During the meeting the President of Mapusa Merchant Association, Ashish Shirodkar articulated the issues they were facing in the Mapusa market.
Shirodkar said the main issue is with the de-silting & cleaning up of gutters & drains. He said the rains over the past 48 hours had caused problems. There was no proper de-silting of gutters resulting in water accumilating and causing inconvenience to the vendors.
He also alleged street vendors were not ready to follow on the decision taken by the previous chairperson of MMCA. They continued to keep their stock in the market and not remove at the end of the day. The previous chairperson had instructed the stock be removed after 10 o clock but now the street vendors are telling the merchants that the decision of removing stock was taken by the previous chairperson & not the new one.
In this meeting the merchant association suggested the chairperson to appoint a staff who will keep check in the market after 10 pm. Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar informed the merchant association that they cooperate with the staff of the MMC in clearing the encroachment & during the de silting of gutters. The chief officer have already begun working on the new plan of the Mapusa market. Clearing of the footpath encroachment will be done in next 8 days further with legal procedures as per the high court order.
Meanwhile Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar gave 3 days time to all Mapusa Merchants & vendors to clear their encroachment on their own before they could clear on legal basis.
