CANACONA: Hemant Naikgaonkar councillor of Nagarcem Ward was elected unopposed as the vice chairperson of Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) in the election held on Monday.
The election for the post of vice chairperson was necessitated as the incumbent vice chairperson Kishore Shet had resigned as per the mutually agreed term of office.
Siddhivinayak Naik, chief officer of Margao Municipal Council, who was nominated by the Directorate of Municipal Administration as the presiding officer, declared Naikgaonkar as elected unopposed for the post of deputy chairperson of CMC as there was only one nomination received.
Chief Officer of Cuncolim Municipal Council, who is holding additional charge, was present along with CMC Chairperson Nitu Sameer Desai, outgoing vice chairperson Kishore Shet, former chairpersons Prarthana Naik Gaonkar, Chaya Soiru Komarpant, former vice chairperson Shamsundar Desai, councillors Guru Komarpant, Dayanand Pagi and Divakar Pagi, during the election process which was held as per Rule 3 and Chairperson and Vice Chairperson Election Rules of Municipality Act 1969.
Speaking after being declared elected, Naikgaonkar, thanked all the nine councillors for supporting his candidature and assured to work towards betterment of all the 10 wards.
