Henceforth, govt to maintain streetlights

PONDA: Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said on Sunday that the government has decided to maintain all the streetlights in Goa, instead of outsourcing them to private agencies.
He disclosed that to bear the maintenance cost of streetlights, the Electricity Department would hike tariff by charging 5 paisa extra per unit
“Majority of consumers in Goa consumes hardly around average 100 units per months. Under this circumstance, most of consumers’ power bill for month will be hiked by just Rs 5 or less,” he said.
He was speaking at Shiroda after launching the project for renovation of low tension power lines. Present on the occasion were Shiroda MLA Subash Shirodkar and Shiroda Sarpanch Amith Shirodkar.
He said that there are around 6.70 lakh power consumers in Goa and majority of them consume less than 100 units.
