SANGUEM: A dog proved its worth as ‘man’s best friend’ when it reportedly sacrificed its life after killing a cobra to save its master and his family at Netravali, Sanguem.
The dog incidentally was a stray dog and was brought home by its present owner from a market place where it was left to fend for itself eight years ago.
However, in the morning, Amit Naik’s family woke up to the news of a cobra being seen at the entrance of their house and after a closer look at the snake it was found to be badly injured.
Having no intentions to harm the snake further, Amit immediately called the forest department authorities to take the snake to a safe place but it breathed its last soon thereafter.
Naik, who is an animal lover, has around 60 dogs at his place, rushed to see his dogs, only to find one of his dogs missing.
After a search, Naik was shocked to see his dog lying cold and motionless after being bitten by the snake.
Naik summarised the incident that the dog attacked the snake and killed it before it could enter the house and harm his family members which includes an eight-month old baby and his seven-year-old son.
“The dog sacrificed its own life to save my family from possible harm that could have been caused by the snake,” claimed Naik.
