PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Tuesday directed the Anjuna Police Inspector and the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) Member Secretary to produce photographs showing the status of the constructions at the beach.
The court gave the directions after the petitioner Ramesh Muzumdar told the court that construction was going on at the site and showed photographs indicating construction going on even at night right on the beach. It stated that the Anjuna police must forthwith ensure that the construction stops and if it continues despite claiming to have informed the party who was undertaking the construction to stop the construction, then the police inspector will be held personally responsible.
The division bench comprising Justice Mahesh Sonak and Justice B P Deshpande also asked the additional government advocate SP Munj to forthwith communicate the order to the Anjuna police inspector and that the GCZMA officials should also forthwith visit the site, if necessary by advancing the date since the photographs indicate that this construction is coming up right on the beach, within the No Development Zone (NDZ).
The Court also opined that there are several instances where such constructions come up and because of inaction on the part of the authorities, such constructions are complete.
