High Court directs reinstating of suspended Unity HS headmaster

PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa directed the management of Unity High School, Valpoi, to immediately reinstate its suspended headmaster Ashraf Ali Khan and pay all consequential benefits, including arrears of salary, within a week.

Khan had approached the High Court praying for revocation of his suspension order dated February 21, 2023 and the chargesheet and to release his balance 50 per cent salary of March 2023.

“Giving relief to the petitioner, the HC stated that Director of Education must decide on the proposal for suspension of the headmaster submitted by the school management in accordance with law and within a period of four weeks,” Khan’s lawyer Chaitanya Padgaonkar said.

The Division Bench stated that the suspension order was issued without obtaining the prior approval of the Director of Education as contemplated under Section 11(3) of the Goa School Education Act, 1984 within the stipulated time.
