High Court issues notices in eight defected MLAs case

The High Court of Bombay at Goa has issued notices to the Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar and the eight defected MLAs, on the petition filed by former GPCC President Girish Chodankar. He had pleaded that the court direct the speaker to decide the disqualification petition against the 8 congress MLAs, who crossed over to the BJP, within 90 days. The High Court has given a time of two weeks to the respondents, in this case, to reply to its notice.

Eight Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of the Indian National Congress (INC) in Goa joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 14 September 2022, ‘unconditionally’. The eight MLAs are Digambar Kamat, Michael Lobo, Delilah Lobo, Rajesh Phaldesai, Kedar Naik, Sankalp Amonkar, Aleixo Sequeira and Rudolf Fernandes.
