High Court notice to govt on municipal ward reservations

PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has issued notices to the State and to the Directorate of Municipal

Administration to a petition challenging the method adopted by the State to reserve wards for the ensuing municipal elections scheduled to be held on October 25.
The notices are returnable next week and the petition is likely to be heard on October 8. The petition filed by activist Auda Viegas challenges the non-reservation of the Junta quarters ward for women. She alleged that the reservation of wards was carried out at the whims and fancies of the concerned which was in violation of the 74th amendment of the Constitution of India.
Another local Ravindra Naik also challenged the reservation of ward number nine for the women in the OBC category.
