MAPUSA: The anti-encroachment drive launched by the Mapusa Municipality to reclaim public space near the historic Old Asilo Hospital was suspended after the owners approached the High Court and managed to obtain a stay on it.
However by the time the officials could get the copy of the stay order in hand, the staff had managed to remove material from a cold drink store.
“We had requested the Chief Officer to wait for half-an-hour till the court passes its orders but the staff continued to remove the material from the store. We were not even issued any prior notice about this anti-encroachment drive. We have been running this shop from last several years. If we had received notice to clear the shop earlier, we would have cleared it on our own,” the shop owner Mayekar said.
