PANJIM: As many as 271 structures on the entire beach stretch of Anjuna-Caisua Village Panchayat jurisdiction have come under scanner of the High Court of Bombay at Goa as the panchayat on Tuesday sought time to decide on its action against such illegal structures.
The High Court while disposing of a petition filed by one Ramesh Muzumdar of Calangute, had directed the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and the Anjuna Police to carry out an extensive survey of structures along the entire beach stretch of Anjuna and to submit a report.
The High Court had also admitted a suo motu petition on the mushrooming of illegal constructions on beach areas and within the No Development Zone (NDZ).
The process to verify the legality of these structures will start soon as the Anjuna-Caisua Village Panchayat sought time to inform the High Court what action it is contemplating against the illegal structures. The panchayat’s action will be informed to the High Court on Wednesday.
The owner of each structure will have to come up with documents to prove their ownership right on the land. As per the report, some structures have been granted permission by the Department of Tourism, which some are wooden shacks and the village panchayat will adopt its methods against these illegal constructions.
